A Time of Many Retrograde Planets

Mercury retrograde in Taurus from 29 April – 23 May 2016

Mars retrograde in Sagittarius from 18 April – 30 June 2016

Saturn retrograde in Sagittarius from 25 March – 13 August 2016

Pluto retrograde in Capricorn from 18 April – 27 September 2016

Jupiter in Virgo has gone direct as of a few days ago, but also gave us a retrograde influence amongst the above planets from 8 January – 10 May 2016

We have four planets all in retrograde motion, and we recently had five planets in retrograde! That is seriously a lot of planets in retrograde happening all at once! So, what is retrograde and what does it mean for you?

When a planet goes ‘retrograde’, it first appears stationary and then moves backwards in motion, decreasing in degrees over time. Planetary retrogrades take the normal energy associated with that planet and turn it inwards. It is a time for more introspection, and rethinking of things that you may have thought you were done with. As the planet goes backwards in degrees in sign, it can also go backwards in your houses, which is especially important for the outer planets, which move very slowly and spend a long time in each of your houses.

Retrograde Planets and Your Houses

Prior to the retrograde, Saturn may have finally moved into the next house for you, which changed all of the issues and themes involved with that planet. Let’s say, for example, it was in the 11th house, which it would have been for well over a year, then you would have spent a lot of time re prioritizing your friendships for something more serious and long-lasting, and participating in society in a more serious manner than previously. Your ‘work’ and ‘challenges’ of the current time lie in Saturns’ house. Then, Saturn moved into your 12th house, where it became time to do a lot of inner work and cleansing of your psyche. While Saturn transits are difficult they can be very rewarding if you slowly but surely put towards the effort necessary for growth. Now that Saturn turns retrograde, we have to return to those past issues, in this case those of the 11th house, as we have not fully completed our work here.

How can you tell where the planets fall in your houses?

A good site for calculating your natal chart and transits is astro.com, you can google “astrodienst natal chart calculator” and/or “…transit calculator”.

Mercury Retrograde in Taurus

Mercury rules your intellect and mental state, as well as transportation and communication. Mercury retrograde can make transportation a bit hairy and communications less clear. It can result in a mental fog, and turn your thoughts inward. Taurus gives a stabilizing, grounding effect to mercury, as Taurus wants to build upon which it has preserved. Taurus is a stubborn sign that wants to see actual material results. Relationships are also important to Taurus. The energy of Taurus is currently influencing your mental state and communication.

Mars Retrograde in Sagittarius

Mars rules your physical energy and actions. When in retrograde you may find it more difficult to endure physical activity. Mars also rules aggression and quarrels, thus you may be more likely to internalize your aggression rather than express it. With the influence on Sagittarius, there is an increase in expansive energy, where you want to be free from constraints to do things. Sagittarius can lead to excess, which in this case would be physically.

Saturn Retrograde Sagittarius

Saturn provides barriers and constraints in order for you to overcome your obstacles and achieve a new level of growth. Saturn retrograde turns this energy inward, in which you may be overcoming internal issues in order to achieve growth at this time. You must look within and face the harsh truth of that which you must do to move forward and be where you wish to be. Through hard work and sustained effort, Saturn brings you many rewards. With the influence of Sagittarius your work is influenced by a greater need for personal freedom to expand your life, and this case your inner life.

Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn

Pluto is an intense planet that rules death to rebirth and transformation. With pluto in retrograde you must look within and let go of your attachments, which no longer serve you. Deep, inner transformations are themes of the retrograde pluto. Capricorn (ruled by Saturn) is the sign of slow, steady, hard work for real-world achievements. Capricorn must overcome many barriers and obstacles, which will lead to the many rewards of their hard work. With the influence of Capricorn, this Pluto retrograde will require hard work, and the energy necessary to overcome your personal barriers in order to achieve your inner transformation that is necessary for your growth at this time.

A Time of Many Retrograde Planets

New Moon in Taurus

May 6-7th, 2016

The new moon is a time to set your intentions for this moon cycle. It is a time when the Sun and Moon reside in the same sign, and you can better harness the energy of that sign to start anew. It is a time to look within and reprioritize by setting your goals and intentions and redirecting your energy to take the actions needed to achieve them.

This new moon lies at 15° Taurus, with the Sun and Moon both at 15° Taurus. The sign of Taurus is a fixed, earth sign ruled by the planet Venus. The themes of this new moon will deal with the energy associated with the sign of Taurus. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus all currently reside in the sign of Taurus, thus there is an even greater increase in this energy during this time. You can check out my post on the current Taurus transits HERE

The ‘fixed’ quality associated with Taurus, makes for a rather stubborn sign, with the skills to preserve. The element ‘earth’ denotes a practical and common sense approach to life. Grounded and resourceful, earth signs understand how to bring their material desires into reality. Venus is the planet of beauty, harmony, balance, and love. Venus gives Taurus a creative, artistic eye, and a need to seek and create harmony with their surroundings.

This new moon embodies the energy of Taurus. The new moon is a time for reevaluation and redirecting of energy to better meet your needs. With Taurus, you are reevaluating your practical needs and relationships. Are you using your skills and resources wisely to achieve harmony in your life? Taurus is a very sensual sign, and at this time your senses are heightened. Thus, Taurus can be a very indulgent sign, sometimes over-indulgent. This is a time to reevaluate your indulgence in sensual pleasures and to work towards returning yourself to a more balanced state. With the ‘fixed’ quality, stubbornness can hold you back from making necessary changes and seeing things from a perspective different from your own. Remember that change is the only constant and work to be more adaptable and flexible in your thoughts and actions.

This new moon also gives you an increase in artistic and creative energy available to you. This is a time when you can more easily achieve your creative goals. With Taurus, creative energy tends to be of a practical bend. Thus you can utilize this energy to get more creative and resourceful about your practical needs and achieve a greater sense of balance and harmony in your life. Relationships are very important to Taurus, so you may also be reevaluating the status of the relationships on your life, and reworking to a more harmonious state in your relationships.

New Moon in Taurus

Taurus Transits – May 4th, 2016

The Sun, Mercury, and Venus are currently all in the sign of Taurus.

Taurus is a fixed sign, earth sign, ruled by Venus. The quality of ‘fixed’ makes Taurus a rather stubborn sign, with the skills to preserve. The element ‘earth’ denotes a practical and common sense approach to life. Grounded and resourceful, earth signs understand how to bring their material desires into reality. Venus is the planet of beauty, harmony, balance, and love. Venus gives Taurus a creative, artistic eye, and a need to seek harmony with their surroundings.

With the Sun, Mercury, and Venus all residing in Taurus, there is an increase in Taurus energy in how we express ourselves, our general personality, how we think and communicate, and in our relations with others. This is a time where we may be more stubborn and work to preserve that which we have worked to build in our lives. We may need to remember to be adaptable and accept change during this transit. We are in a more grounded and practical state in terms of our thought processes and relationships with others. With Venus as the natural ruler of Taurus, she bestows an increased air of creativity, art, harmony, and balance in our relationships (Venus in Taurus) and in our mental states (Mercury in Taurus). Taurus lives through the senses and can be very indulgent. We may have heightened sensory experiences and enjoy  high sensory activities (touching, eating, etc). Being very sensual can, however, lead to over-indulgence, so this can be something to be aware of.

Coming on May 6th, 2016, we will also have the moon moving into Taurus. This moon will also be a new moon, a time to set intentions for the coming moon cycle. There will be an even greater increase in Taurus energy during this transit as we will have all the inner (personal) planets except for Mars in the sign Taurus – Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus will all be in Taurus.

I will be writing a post on the new moon in Taurus, coming this on May 6th, so look forward to that as well! You can also look to your natal chart to see how all these Taurus placements interact with your natal placements (transits). Send me questions and check out my blog posts to learn more about your natal placements.

Taurus Transits – May 4th, 2016

Natal Moon in Virgo

Your moon sign shows your emotional nature and the type of energy you find most comforting. Depending on how your moon sign interacts with the rest of your chart, you may not express this side of yourself to the outer world. This sign represents your feeling energy, your intuition, your inner impulses and instincts that come from deep within.

Virgo is represented by the maiden, or the virgin. The symbolism of Virgo is best described by Alan Oken, in his book “Alan Oken’s Complete Astrology” as follows: “Virgo is the fully ripened harvest, untouched as yet by the farmer’s hands and still filled with all the potential resources of the abundant crops” … “Virgo’s strength rests in the latency of the power contained within the unreleased energy of her being”…”She prefers to wait for the perfect complement to her being so that her fruit will be harvested under the best conditions possible. But if she delays too long, her fruit will sour or spoil. Her timing, therefore, must be ever so precise.”

The sign of Virgo comes after Leo. Leo is a self-serving sign, thinking highly of themselves, wanting to be seen as the best and in the lime-light. Leo likes to be the boss and is dominate; confidently giving orders to others, Leo can lack awareness of how this may affect others. Virgo has experienced the consequences of the self-centeredness associated with the sign of Leo, and is learning how to serve others, to be humble, and seeks simplicity in life. Libra follows Virgo; Libra is the balanced couple, with vast understanding of the cooperation necessary for a balanced and thriving relationship. Virgo has not yet reached the understanding of libra, as these lessons will come after the trials of Virgo. Thus, Virgo can get too caught up in their own code of ethics, and be very discriminating in relationships, causing a lack of balance and cooperation necessary to maintain their relationships. Understanding the place of a sign in the evolution of the zodiac, can help you understand the general lessons and themes placed upon each sign. This of course is further influenced by the position of the sign in your natal chart. We all have Virgo in our charts on one of the 12 houses and experience this energy in certain realms of our lives. The personal experiences and expressions differ based on the many aspects and placements in your chart, as well as your own evolution of consciousness.

Virgo is a mutable sign, flexible and understanding of the need of change in our lives. Virgo is an air sign, intellectually bent, following mind over heart.

Moon in Virgo is emotionally discriminating, carefully discerning how they feel about things and others. They may analyze the details of how they feel, and prefer to process their emotions intellectually and thoroughly. Moon in Virgo is prone to worry and upset emotionally, they may overthink things, which tends to express itself in an upset stomach, as Virgo rules this area of the body. Moon in Virgo is emotionally humble and always learning.

Virgo tends to create its own code of ethics, which it follows deeply. Moon in Virgo feels most comfortable around those who understand this and naturally fall in line with this code, and what they deem as acceptable. Moon in Virgo doesn’t want to be the center of attention, they find comfort in the simple things in life, seeking only what is necessary. Moon in Virgo feels comfortable serving others, and helping those who are less resourceful, as they are very resourceful, and understand that we must be able to rely on each other when in need. If negatively expressed, they may manipulate others through the offering of their services. All signs can be expressed positively or negatively, depending on the state of the native. Moon in Virgo may appear emotionally reserved and “cool”, as they reserve their energy to be used efficiently.

Natal Moon in Virgo

Natal Moon in Gemini

Your moon sign shows your emotional nature and the type of energy you find most comforting. Depending on how your moon sign interacts with the rest of your chart, you may not express this side of yourself to the outer world. This sign represents your feeling energy, your intuition, your inner impulses and instincts that come from deep within.

Gemini, is represented by the twins, showing its duality, and is ruled by the lightning-fast, intellectual planet Mercury. Gemini is an air sign, the element known for strong communication, and is mutable. Mutable signs are the most flexible and adaptable of the modalities (Cardinal, mutable, fixed).

With the moon in Gemini, your emotional nature is very changeable and tends to be ruled by your mental state. Gemini is the most finicky of signs, and easily spooked by vibes they don’t agree with. You can easily change your mind about how you feel about things, and can convince yourself and others of almost anything. You can literally feel two contradicting things at once, hence the duality of Gemini, understanding many sides, and choosing parts of each option to agree with. You feel most comfortable when you can stay open to different options and experience open communication and variety. While you prefer to be open emotionally, you can also easily bend the truth when it is needed. You can easily fool others, as Gemini is the ultimate trickster and teaser, usually with good intentions and just for fun.

Moon in Gemini, is very light emotionally and doesn’t want to take things too seriously, preferring a mental exploration of the emotional state. Gemini has the most in-depth, categorized mind and finds comfort in intellectual stimulation and mental exploration and organization. However, moon in Gemini can become emotionally unstable due to too much time in the mind and allowing the mind to loose control of its discipline and confuse the native of what is true and what is false. Prone to overthinking about emotions and creating unnecessary nervousness around emotional situations. You may prefer to stay away from over emotionalism and channel your emotions into more intellectual pursuits and means of expression.

You feel very comfortable learning and when in the company of social, intellectual types. Gemini is also the sign of short-term trips, both physical and mental transport, and is known as the messenger. Moon in Gemini finds comfort in going on daily trips, both physically and mentally, where there is plenty of stimulus for learning and interaction. Moon in Gemini, is very much in-the-know, communicates lightly with everyone, known to have many acquaintances, and trusted with transporting many messages between others. You intuitively understand the spoken and written word. You find comfort in either writing or talking about your emotions in order to release them, and you can easily move forward from them, as you are very detached emotionally.

Natal Moon in Gemini

New Moon in Aries – 7 April 2016

The new moon is a time to set your intentions for this moon cycle. It is a time when the sun and moon are in the same sign, and you can better harness the energy of that sign to start anew. With this new moon in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, the energy is even more available to you to begin something new. Uranus is also conjunction the sun and moon in Aries, bringing about an even more sudden need for change and new, refreshing energy in your life.

With the moon in Aries, it is important to watch your anger and to be sure it is not channeled in the wrong direction. Aries is the fierce warrior of the zodiac, however, with the combination of Uranus in Aries, we must be careful to not loose our tact and diplomacy over to quick, impulsive energy that may lead to brash action you may later regret.

The sun and moon in Aries allows you greater access to your raw, impulsive, and action-oriented energy. This energy can be used positively to help you complete tasks that require you to be brave, courageous, physical, and inventive. Aries energy will go where others may not, allowing them to have breakthroughs and ingenuity of thought. This is a good time for going at tasks independently and doing things that require you to be fierce rather than diplomatic. You will have an increase of Aries energy at your disposal, which like all energies, can be used positively or negatively. The opposite of Aries is the libra; libra is the sign of balance, partnerships, and diplomacy. Thus, this is not the time for you when it comes to working well with others and mediating issues for peace. You prefer to face your battles head on and fight for yourself. But you must be careful that you don’t let your brash fierceness and impulsiveness offend those who support you. You must remember that you are not the only one who matters, you are apart of a collective, where cooperation and sacrifice are necessary for our survival.

With the moon in Aries, your emotions are raw and you may be feeling them, and expressing them more impulsively and aggressively than usual. This is a good time for outdoor activities, such as hiking and camping, where you can get in touch with your basic survival needs and release this energy in a constructive way. Releasing your inner rage in a positive, constructive way is the best way to minimize any accidents or fights that can occur during times of Aries. Play fighting, and sport fighting, like aikido or BJJ can also be a constructive release for this energy. The planet Uranus can bring about sudden, unexpected change, making this Aries transit even more unstable and reactive. It is up to you how you use the energy that is available to you. And remember that which sow on the new moon, you shall reap at the full. Try to use your energy wisely and to your greatest benefit for your own personal self growth.

New Moon in Aries – 7 April 2016

Natal Moon in Aries

Your moon sign shows your emotional nature and the type of energy you find most comforting. Depending on how your moon sign interacts with the rest of your chart, you may not express this side of yourself to the outer world. This sign represents your feeling energy, your intuition, your inner impulses and instincts that come from deep within.

Aries, ruled by Mars, is the sign of action, physical energy, and impulse. The sign of Aries is much like a fierce warrior, who must be brave, courageous, strong, independent, and ready for battle. The warrior must be decisive, fast-acting, and able to outsmart his opponent.

With your moon in Aries, you feel most comfortable when taking action on your emotions. You may also be quite aggressive emotionally and have a bit of inner rage, which needs to be released and channeled constructively. Sports and other physical activities are a good way to release your aggression. Your emotional state is rather raw and you deal with your emotions rashly and directly, often without tact. You are not concerned with altering the perception of your emotional state to please others, like your opposite moon in libra. You prefer to deal with your emotions head on and feel most comfortable around others who understand this and are not offended by your nature.

You do not harbor resentment or hold grudges. You prefer to deal with things and move on. You don’t want to be weighed down by your emotional state, and prefer not to take them too seriously. Aries is a cardinal sign and likes to initiate action, and is also the first sign in the zodiac. Aries is brave, unafraid to try something new or dangerous, tending to act first before thinking. With the moon here you feel most comfortable with this energy and tend to take emotional risks, as you are brave and courageous emotionally. Being a fire sign, you are easily excited emotionally, and enjoy the thrills involved in dealing with your emotions. The moon also tends to represent the type of energy present around your relationship with your mother and your view of her, having undertones of the Aries energy with your placement.

Aries is also inventive and likes to create something new and useful, tending to have the mind of an architect. You may be good at building quick emotional connection with others, but lack the full understanding of the art of give and take that is necessary to maintain the relationship in a balanced way. With Moon in Aries you are emotionally independent and know how to stand alone and rely on yourself. Your impulsive intuition is instinctual.
